The native answered “buyog”, and the sailors muttured ” Ah! Buyog”. Eventually the town came to be known as Abuyog.

Municipality of Abuyog is oficially a 1st class municipality in the province of Leyte, Philippines. It is the Largest town of the island of Leyte in terms of land area.

Abuyog is bounded to the north by Javier, to the east by Mahaplag and Baybay City, to the south by Silago in Southern Leyte and it is facing to the Leyte Gulf out into the Philippine sea.
